2 Collaborations to Get Exited About for Fall 2014: ALEXANDER WANG for H&M and ALTUZARRA for TARGET

As I obsess about kaftans for this Summer, I am also drooling over two collaborations that will surely drain my wallet this coming Fall.  Yikes!  Luckily for me, these collections are set for the Fall/Winter season, and I really have no need for cold-weather clothing in hot-as-Hades Miami, Florida.

It was announced earlier in April that Alexander Wang is set to collaborate with H&M this year.  The lookbook is not out yet for the capsule collection to be released on November 6, 2014.  Expect urban-cool outfits with this collaboration where garments will be available for men and women.

Last week, it was announced that Altuzarra will collaborate with TARGET for Fall 2014.  This collab is set to come out earlier on September 14, 2014.  There are close to 50 items for this capsule collection that includes apparel and lingerie priced at $17.99 to $89.99 and shoes and accessories priced at $29.99 to $79.99.  Target.com states that "The collection features a mix of iconic Altuzarra silhouettes with designs created specifically for Target."  Also, no lookbook yet, but there is this sketch and video that gives us a hint of what to expect.  One thing is for sure, expect sexiness and to show a little leg ;-)

Shopping for Dresses Made Easy at Prices You Will Like at Amazon UK

It's Spring and soon to be Summer, and some lucky people may have weddings and other happy occasions to get dressed up for.  Luckily for you, shopping for dresses just got easier from one of my favorite Online sources of everything at a better price, Amazon.  Today, it's UK extension just launched The Dress Edit, where you can now shop for that dress that you need by trend or by occasion.  Prices vary, but as a frequent buyer through Amazon.com, you are likely to find that dress you want and need at a great price there.

According to PambiancoNews, The Dress Edit offers more than 20,000 styles.  Some of the brands I noticed being offered are great brands such as BCBGMAXAZRIA, Esprit, French Connection, Lipsy (A UK brand that I just happen to have a couple cute items of,) Tommy Hillfiger, and many, many more.

I don't know if Amazon will eventually have the US version, but in the meantime, you can shop it's UK site.  Shipping will be a bit more, but Amazon.co.uk will ship to the US through it's global shipping feature.  There is also nifty feature when you check out that converts the prices in pounds to the currency you will pay for, in my case -- dollars.

So, happy browsing, and I hope that you find that perfect dress at a great price.

Miss Courtney Kerr Has Another Jewelry Collaboration -- COURTNEY LOVES GORJANA

Kudos to Courtney Kerr for another collaboration, this time with designer Gorjana Reidel and available on Website Gorjana-Griffin.com.  With the Courtney Loves gorjana Collection, you'll find gold-plated and gold-toned necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets in yellow and rose gold that are simply perfect for layering, stacking and adding to your existing jewelry collection.

The collection is made up of 20 pieces that are feminine and edgy at the same time.  None of the pieces are overwhelming or statement-making that you can only wear them once in a while as the focus of the outfit, rather these pieces have subtlety and are the pieces that can easily become your favorite.  These pieces are the kinds of jewelry that you will want to wear all the time mixed with your other favorites.  I'll let these pretty ladies, Courtney and Gorjana, explain in their video:

I love the saying they came up with "live, love, layer."  I totally get that and agree !!!

Priced from $38 to $158, these are pieces that won't break the bank.  I have the feeling that whatever you spend on these pieces, it won't even come close to the worth it will have for you, based on the sheer wearability of this collection.

To see what Courtney Kerr's style is all about, check it out at What Courtney Wore.

Shop Online Much? Coupon Much? Do You Like Cash Back? Then You Simply Must Know About SHOPATHOME.COM

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I have $10.72 pending in cash-back rewards from ShopAtHome.com.  Sure, it's only ten bucks, but HEY, IT'S TEN
BUCKS !!!  I had the same feeling as if I found cash I forgot about in one of my handbags or pants pockets.  I don't even remember when I added the ShopAtHome.com Menu Bar on my browser page -- maybe earlier this year, maybe late last year.  I really don't remember, but what a surprise to find out I've earned ten bucks in cash back this morning.  I was alerted on my e-mail inbox.

I didn't know I was earning cash back, since I was not going through the ShopAtHome.com Website when I was making Online purchases.  The only thing special that I did was add their menu bar to my browser.  I was simply going to the sites I wanted to shop from.  It's not like Ebates.com where you have to be logged onto that site, see if they have cash back partnerships with the Online store you want to shop from, then click on their link so that you get credit for that shopping experience.  Anyhoo, now come to think of it, that's quite a hassle.  With ShopAtHome.com, it was automatic.

In fact, I have been really disappointed with Ebates lately because some purchases I have made this year, I went through the site like I was supposed to for Amazon and Target purchases I made, and I was not given cash back for those purchases.  Booooooooooooooooh !!!  FAIL.

I am definitely recommending ShopAtHome.com over Ebates.com for getting cash back on Online purchases.  Here are some of the benefits of signing up with ShopAtHome.com:
  • 1,300+ Grocery Coupons
  • 8,000+ Free Shipping Coupons
  • $50 million+ saved through Cash Back rebates
  • Cash Back rewards at over 5,000 top stores
  • Connect with 40 million savvy shoppers
If you are an avid Online shopper, you might as well save a little money on purchases you were going to make anyway via coupons, free shipping, or with cash back.  You might as well make your hard-earned dollars stretch or go longer.

New Obsession: Stella and Bow's "Mean Girls" Inspired Jewelry Collection

A little over a week ago, on April 30th, marked the 10-year anniversary for "Mean Girls."  I was delighted to find jewelry brand Stella & Bow and their BURN BOOK COLLECTION while browsing the Web today.  The pieces are named after characters from the pop-culture pic.  Not only are the pieces cute and fun, but the price is right on-point for budget-conscious gals with pieces priced from $27.60 to $264 -- with most pieces under $100.

I personally don't think you have to be a certain age to rock these pieces, but it is most perfect for now 20-somethings that were teens when "Mean Girls" came out in 2004.  Me personally, I would still wear them, but I am probably guilty of wearing age-inappropriate clothing and accessories.  I just don't define myself by my age.  I wear what I want and like.

Here are just some of the pieces from the Burn Book Collection:

Aaron Gold Ring $23.30
Cady "fetch" Bracelet $37.95
Ms. N Necklace $88.00
Gretchen Gold Bracelet $110.00

These jewelry pieces are crafted with gold-plating or silver-plating, but there are some pieces that are made with gold-filled elements which keeps it's color better.  When I make my one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces or shop for jewelry, I prefer gold-filled because the color will last if you take care of them properly (as in not showering with them on, etc.)  So be sure to check out the materials if this matters to you.  Stella & Bow also uses semi-precious stones and even diamonds on select pieces.

They have other collections too, so be sure to check those out as well.  If you have the time, also read up on how Stella & Bow came to be on their About Page.  You'll find that founders Lauren Brokaw and Lindsey Lerman are quickly on the rise and have already become the darlings of bloggers and magazines alike.

J. Crew to Open a Lower End Line: J. CREW MERCANTILE

For the budget conscious, J. Crew is not often a shopping destination.  It's a store often relegated for special occasions or an occasional splurge, since they are not known to offer deep discounts.  With Jenna Lyons at the creative helm, J. Crew has a devoted following that continue to shop at full price.  However, with lackluster sales from the most recent holiday season, perhaps this is an attempt to boost sales and profits.  According to Bloomberg Business News, "net income tumbled to $5.92 million in J. Crew’s fourth quarter, down from $10.2 million a year earlier."

I, myself, can only afford to look to J. Crew for styling inspiration, and their products are often out of my reach.  Finally, I might soon be able to do more than just window-shop with J. Crew Mercantile.  This offshoot is said to be priced and to offer clothing and accessories similar to J. Crew Factory stores, except you won't have to schlep an hour away to a factory outlet mall.  Mercantile stores are said to be located in regional malls according to Refinery 29.  Think of J. Crew Mercantile as Old Navy is to The Gap -- a lower-end version at a lesser price.  Why not, it's being brought to us by the same man, Mickey Drexler, the current CEO of J. Crew.  He was responsible for introducing Old Navy back when he was CEO at Gap, Inc.

I love this new expansion to J. Crew brands, and I am gonna keep an eye out for the new Mercantile stores opening in my neck of the woods.  There are no dates yet as to when the first store will open.  Everything is still in the preliminary stages.  J. Crew Group Inc. only recently trademarked the name J. Crew Mercantile back in November.

My Shopping Experience -- Peter Som for KOHL'S DesignNation

Overall, I am very satisfied and a happy, happy shopper.  I went to the nearby KOHL's yesterday to see the quality of this capsule collection that was released 10 days ago on April 10th.  I have previously purchased Online other capsule collections from DesignNation by KOHL's and was pretty happy with my purchases.  Generally, I find the quality a bit better than most Target collaborations.  Well, when I inspected the garments in-store, I was very impressed with the quality.  The eyelet pieces were outstanding!  Although mostly sold out in-store, at least I got to feel the 100% cotton it was made of and got to inspect the solid construction.  I highly recommend all the cute eyelet pieces.  I got to order the eyelet Poncho Top in XL from a kiosk in the store.  I don't shop at KOHL's much, but apparently if there is an item in-store that is not available in your size, you can purchase it Online from the in-store kiosk and you won't have to pay for shipping and handling.  I thought it was an awesome option.

What I ended up purchasing in-store were the two Printed Shift Dresses above in the same style but different colors.  Both on sale for $52.50 from it's original price of $70.  It is made of 100% polyester, but it is a really good version of polyester and looks and feels just like silk charmeuse.  It feels really nice on the skin and doesn't feel like it is trapping in heat like polyester normally feels.
I also ended up getting a black, loose-fitting cardigan from the Dana Buchman line, a very nice looking line for the more mature woman.

You gotta love the KOHL's Cash they give you after the checkout, although you have to wait at least a day to be able to use them.  I got $40 worth of KOHL's Cash after my in-store purchase and my kiosk purchase to be shipped to me.  I used it just now, a day later, to purchase the Printed Charmeuse Tank on sale for $36 (original price $48) Online.  The remaining $4 of the KOHL's Cash was used for part of the shipping and handling, and all I had to pay for was $2.95 for the remaining shipping and handling fees.

O.K. KOHL's, you made me a fan.  I am definitely going back sometime soon, and I will definitely be back for the next DesignNation collaboration!

Peter Som for KOHL'S DesignNation is Already Marked-Down!

Launched just 9 days ago on April 10th, some items have already sold out, but the ones still available are already marked down.  Good news for bargain shoppers like you and me!!!

Each DesignNation capsule collection, in collaboration with a designer, is inspired by a place or travel destination.  In Peter Som's case, he uses the sophisticated laid-backness of St. Barths as the inspiration of this Spring/Summer collaboration.

Peter Som debuted as a designer in the Spring of 2001 at Seventh on Sixth in the Bryant Park tents of NYC.  Since then, he has emerged as one of the new American designers providing clean lines and a feminine aesthetic often sported by such stars as Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson.

Here are my picks and what I am going to look for today at my nearby KOHL'S store:

Eeeeeegads !!! Part of the Isabel Marant for H&M LOOKBOOK Leaked !

Now, I don't understand what the secrecy is all about, but anyhow, part, JUST PART of the Lookbook leaked yesterday and the Huffington Post has a nice 59 page slide presentation of it.  Click the following link to view the Isabel Marant for H&M Partial LOOKBOOK.

Well actually, I do understand.  It is a very annoying marketing tactic to build up anticipation and excitement.  H&M, you are killing me over here!!!  LOL.

My Review of Eva Mendes for New York & Company

I am not a big fan of collections by celebrities with clothing lines, with the exception of Gwen Stefani, but I just happened to step into a New York & Company store nearby looking for a black blazer and saw the Eva by Eva Mendes for New York & Company collection.  To my surprise, I liked what I saw -- A LOT.  The collection definitely has a dominant presence in the store as it was featured at the front as you walk in.  The color scheme of peach, coral and burgundies was very warm and welcoming.  The look of the collection is demure and very feminine.  It is definitely a girly-girl's collection.

The collection has a little more to offer other than clothes to wear to the office, as that is what New York and Company is known for -- affordable work-wear.  According to Women's Wear Daily, New York & Company is venturing into the "lucrative day-to-dinner, cocktail and evening categories."  Partnering with Eva Mendes and offering the Eva collection is just part of that strategy.

Well I am very happy for Ms. Eva Mendes.  I hope this partnership is a success for both the talented actress and New York & Company.

I walked out of the store with nothing, but I was glad I got to see the collection.  My favorite is the bow blouse in City Leopard;  too bad I have nowhere to wear that to.  If you like feminine dressing that is not fussy, this collection might be for you and worth checking out.  The Eva by Eva Mendes collection includes blouses, lots of dresses, skirts, trousers and accessories.  Definitely something you can wear from the office to cocktail hour.  The price-point ranges from $19.95 to $159.95 with most of the pieces being between $50. and $80.  This collection is very affordable.

Ms. Mendes talks about the partnership...

Fast Forward to Spring 2014: The Next Target Collaboration is with PETER PILOTTO

Fresh from the success of Sunday's release of 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target, it was announced on Monday that the next designer collaboration will be with PETER PILOTTO.  Designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, the masterminds behind the brand PETER PILOTTO, announced during their show at London Fashion Week, that they are indeed the next designers to link up with Target.

Not yet on Americans' fashion vocabulary, but celebrities are leading the way in making the designer duo known to us Americans.  Just some of the celebs sporting their gear are Kerry Washington, Kristen Stewart, Miranda Kerr, Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller and Emma Watson.  You can easily spot a PETER PILOTTO design on the red carpet, with bold colors and unique graphic prints, it is no wonder that celebrities are wearing their designs for events -- IT GETS NOTICED.

As you can imagine, this is the perfect collab for Spring.  PETER PILOTTO for Target will hit the stores and Online on February 9, 2014.  The collection will feature nearly 70 items that includes women's apparel, swimwear and accessories.  What's most exciting is that most of the 70 or so items in this collection are under $60.  Separates, dresses and swimwear are priced between $14.99 to 79.99 while the accessories are priced between $16.99 to $39.99.  Expect the color scheme in cool blues and greens and warm reds and oranges.  The following teaser video gives a hint of what we might see in February.

The video is a little eerie.  It reminds me of the marketing tactics behind the success of the movie "The Blair Witch Project."

Another exiting feature of this collab is that it will have a wider international presence due to a special partnership with British Online site and purveyor of luxury and great fashion, NET-A-PORTER.COM, which delivers to more than 170 countries.  This is great news to those outside of the U.S. to which Target.com does not deliver to.  Also available on February 9th, NET-A-PORTER will carry a curated assortment of the collaboration.

To get more of an idea of the PETER PILOTTO aesthetic, check out their Spring 2014 collection from Style.com.

WHAT !!! Georgina Chapman of Marchesa Does a Line for JCP ?

Hold on.  Wait a minute.  WHAT ?!!!  I'm about to faint.  I just read from WhoWhatWear that JCP has a new line that is available today, Friday, March 1st, from red-carpet favorite Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, called PEARL.  I just died and went to heaven!

Looking at the collection Online, it looks to be a junior line filled with party dresses and looks.  Too bad, I have no where to go.  Also, looking at the size availability, it goes from 2 to 12 and some up to size 14.  Too bad, I won't fit in these, but good for you thinner girls.  It is a delightful collection of 38 pieces full of frills and lace and all that is girlie.  Exactly what you would expect from Marchesa.  I don't know how this deal came about, but JCP needs all the help they can get to reinvigorate the brand and their stores -- their sales have been down.  This PEARL line by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa might help.  With prom season in the air, I hope these hot dresses and outfits sell out.  Prices range from $50 to $250, a far cry from the thousands of dollars a usual Marchesa gown costs.  There are going to be many lucky girls that are now going to get to own a dress by Georgina Chapman.

According to WhoWhatWear, the line will be updated every month, adding new looks and peices.  WOW!!!

Here is a look behind the story of PEARL:

Here are my picks from the collection:

Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa Organza Rosette Dress, $110

Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa Strapless Embellished Dress, $110.

Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa Long Organza Dress, $250.

Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa Lace Jacket or Shorts, $50. - $70.

Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa Lace Overlay Floral Dress, $110.

Tips for Thrift Store Shopping

Nowadays, there are so many outlets for vintage and used clothing.  Aside from your local charity shop, there are consignment stores, vintage shops, garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, eBay, Etsy, and other Web sources.  I prefer the local charity shop.  You can't beat the deal, and the proceeds go to a good cause.  It's a "win, win."

Let's first cover some basics.  You're probably asking "What counts as vintage?"  According to Wikipedia, clothing items before 1920 counts as antique.  Clothing items between 1920 and 20 years prior the current date count as vintage.  So as of the writing of this post, anything between 1920 and 1993 count as vintage.  Wow, I feel so old knowing that 90's items are vintage already!  Anything after 1993 is just used clothing, which is O.K. -- they can still be treasure After all, one person's garbage is another person's treasure, right???

The Tips:
1.)  Know your fabrics.  Be familiar with how fabrics look and feel.  Go for natural fibers like cotton, wool, and silk.  They last longer, look better, and are less likely hold funny smells like polyester does.  When you know your fabrics, good quality items will visually pop up easier.  When you become an expert with fabrics, you won't spend so much time perusing the aisles,  and you will be able to quickly go through a section/store.  Good fabrics will POP at you.

2.)  Know what you are looking for.  It's always a lot less painful when you know what you are looking for.  What does you closet need?  Are you trying to match something?

3.)  Know what is on trend for the season.  If you are thrifting, you are probably looking for cheap fixes for trendy looks, so do your homework.  This is part of knowing what you are looking for.

4.)  Go one or two months before a season starts.  Early bird catches the worm!  Although charity shops get a constant supply, it helps to be shopping for items other people that shop there are NOT looking for -- less competition.

5.)  Look for barely worn items.  There are items that didn't get worn often, or never got worn, and/or were very well taken care ofstrive to find items of this caliber. (Unless you are purposely looking for distressed items.  Then go for it.)

6.Be patient.  Finding treasures need patienceThrifting needs to be done on a leisurely day.  Otherwise, you might get stressed out.

7.)  Try the items on.  If you are shopping for yourself, make sure you try the item/s on.  Yes, it's cheap, but you don't want to throw your money away either.  These items are "All Final Sale."  Make sure it fits you well or only need minor alterations that you can do yourself.  You don't want to pay for alterations more that the item is worth, unless you find designer treasure.

8.)  Avoid items with a funny/bad smell, stains, or holes.  I know, this is a "duh," but I thought I should mention you want to look "on trend" and not homeless.

9.)  Make a day out of thrifting.  Invite a friend/friends to go with you.  Go to more than one charity shop.  Have fun with it!

10.)  Buy an item, get rid of an item from your closet.  I don't always practice this one, but I really need to.  As with any shopping excursion, it's a good idea that for every item you add to your closet, an item goes out.  Donate it.  Give it to a friend (I usually give it to my Mom.)  Have a garage sale.  Whatever, or your closet might end up looking like a thrift store.

11.)  Don't overlook the little bins.  I have found some great jewelry there.  My Mom once bought a 14K gold ring with a stone over 10 carats (most likely a green tourmaline) from a flea market for a dollar.  ONE DOLLAR !!!  She has since given me that ring, and it is one of my treasured jewelry pieces.

12.)  Clean the item before wearing.  Most charity shops dry clean the clothing items before putting them on the floor, but I like to be on the safe side.  Wash or clean accordingly.  Read the label, if it's still visible or if there is oneWipe down jewelry with warm water and soap.  Same with shoes (if you are brave enough to buy used shoes.)

For me, every thrifting trip is like a treasure hunt.  I always have a lot of fun with it.  I don't always find things that I want, but I never find it a waste of time.  I hope you have much success with your treasure hunt.

New Obsession: Watches at TARGET

The watches at Target first ignited my interest when my classmate who I carpool with wore her rose gold watch.  I admired her watch from the backseat on the way to class.  While we were walking in the parking lot on the way to class, she was fidgeting with it and mentioned "Look at this watch I got at Target.  Doesn't it look just like a Michale Kors watch?"  It sure did!  I thought it was one.  Then she mentioned it was under $20 bucks.  It was then I decided I gotta get me one too.

Merona® Rectangle Case Bracelet Watch - Gunmetal $19.99

Looking for the rose gold watch my classmate has a day later, I did not find it at my neighborhood Target, but I found this one instead.  The rectangle bracelet watch in gunmetal was a no-brainer, must-have watch.  I have gunmetal jewelry that needed a matching watch, so I bought it that day. I wore it right away and couldn't stop looking at it.  It looks so expensive!  Although, it doesn't have the feel of an expensive watch due to the light weight of it, it is gorgeous, and only you would know the actual cost of the watch.  It retails for $19.99, but I got a $2 discount.  At $17.99, it was a steal!

About a week later,  I had to return some items.  I wanted to exchange it for hopefully the rose gold watch my classmate had.  No such luck, but I found this beautiful two-toned number.

Men's Merona® Silver and Gold Two-Tone Easy-Read Watch $19.99

I am wearing it now as I write this post, and again I can't help but look at every now and then.  It is just that stunning!  This watch is a bit heavier than the gunmetal number -- it has a heavier case, but the bracelet is still very light, indicating an inexpensive watch.  That doesn't bother me though, as I am not a watch snob (or a snob of any kind.)  I know there are folks out there, like my brother, who only wear expensive time-pieces.  If so, these watches are not for you.  Also, some of the features are not functional and are there just for show.  The stop-watch detailing are fake and don't work.  Again, this does not bother me;  I don't need that feature anyway.  I got the $2. discount again and ended up paying $17.99 plus tax.

These watches, by the way, are much better looking in person.  These photos are very washed out by the lighting, as with most items viewed Online.  Better to check it out in the stores first to see if you like them too.  I also love that the face does not show a brand.  It gives it a more sleek look, and less indicators that it is a cheap watch.  Sometimes the brand ruins the look (with bad logo design, poor choices in font design, bad brand reputation like "Timex", etc.)

If you get bored with wearing the same ol' watch everyday, like I do, these watches are great solution.  The watches at Target are an inexpensive fix.  You can practically have a watch for every outfit.

Today, I have the urge to hunt down this elusive rose gold ditty that my classmate has, so I will stop by the Target by my job, crossing my fingers that it is available (store locator says it is in-stock.)  It is this gorgeous number that I must have.

Women's Merona® Rose Gold Oversized Boyfriend Watch $16.99

Wish me luck...
