Rock star. Fashion Icon. Muse. And now, painter too. Is there anything Alison Mosshart cannot do? I don't think so. Alison Mosshart oozes talent out of her pores.
I am not surprised to hear that her paintings were recently on exhibit in NYC, in the Chelsea District. Alison Mosshart, along with 20 other female artists, were on exhibit at ArtNowNY as part of the "Push It" exhibit to showcase female talent. The exhibit ended just four days ago on the 26th. Although I am late to find out about this and to share the info, she plans a solo exhibit in her hometown of Nashville, TN later this year. You might have a chance to check out her art then.
Alison Mosshart uses mixed media (acrylic, pencil and ink) on canvas, paper and fabric.
Alison Mosshart is part of the duo (along with Jamie Hince) behind blues-punk band The Kills, one of my current favorite bands. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in February 2012 during their 10-year anniversary tour. She has more recently been collaborating with Jack White with the band The Dead Weather.
Here is one of my favorite songs/videos from The Kills, "Black Balloon."

Obsessed With Birkenstocks for Spring/Summer 2014
For Spring this year, I am looking forward to wearing breezy maxi dresses and skirts worn with Birkenstocks as inspired by the runway looks for Spring/Summer 2014 from Edun and Givenchy Menswear Collection and from Calvin Klein Pre-Fall 2014. Also, I am feeling inspiration from last Spring's Celine collection with the fur-lined Birk-style sandals.
I scored a pair of aqua Birkenstock from Ross two weeks ago for 40 bucks, and my order from Asos of black-patent Birkenstocks just came in (about $75. Not really a steal, but I had to have them.)
I haven't had a chance to wear them yet. My new busy work schedule only affords me to wear scrubs, as I am a new nurse -- haven't had much time to socialize and be out and about, but when I do have the time, I will be wearing relaxed clothing with my new Birkenstocks.
I was never a fan of Birkenstocks before. I thought it was just bad fashion and associated with hippies, but once again, time has changed my mind. Maybe it had something to do with the Olsen twins sporting them? I'm not sure... But I really did like the relaxed outfits I saw them worn with recently on the runway. For this season, it has less of a hippie feel and actually has edge. I am looking forward to being comfortable in them.
To the right is a dress I found at Ross for $16.99 two weeks ago also, perfect to go with the aqua Birkenstocks. I've styled it with a croc-embossed leather bag that I scored at a Goodwill many years ago.

My Shopping Experience -- Peter Som for KOHL'S DesignNation
Overall, I am very satisfied and a happy, happy shopper. I went to the nearby KOHL's yesterday to see the quality of this capsule collection that was released 10 days ago on April 10th. I have previously purchased Online other capsule collections from DesignNation by KOHL's and was pretty happy with my purchases. Generally, I find the quality a bit better than most Target collaborations. Well, when I inspected the garments in-store, I was very impressed with the quality. The eyelet pieces were outstanding! Although mostly sold out in-store, at least I got to feel the 100% cotton it was made of and got to inspect the solid construction. I highly recommend all the cute eyelet pieces. I got to order the eyelet Poncho Top in XL from a kiosk in the store. I don't shop at KOHL's much, but apparently if there is an item in-store that is not available in your size, you can purchase it Online from the in-store kiosk and you won't have to pay for shipping and handling. I thought it was an awesome option.
What I ended up purchasing in-store were the two Printed Shift Dresses above in the same style but different colors. Both on sale for $52.50 from it's original price of $70. It is made of 100% polyester, but it is a really good version of polyester and looks and feels just like silk charmeuse. It feels really nice on the skin and doesn't feel like it is trapping in heat like polyester normally feels.
I also ended up getting a black, loose-fitting cardigan from the Dana Buchman line, a very nice looking line for the more mature woman.
You gotta love the KOHL's Cash they give you after the checkout, although you have to wait at least a day to be able to use them. I got $40 worth of KOHL's Cash after my in-store purchase and my kiosk purchase to be shipped to me. I used it just now, a day later, to purchase the Printed Charmeuse Tank on sale for $36 (original price $48) Online. The remaining $4 of the KOHL's Cash was used for part of the shipping and handling, and all I had to pay for was $2.95 for the remaining shipping and handling fees.
O.K. KOHL's, you made me a fan. I am definitely going back sometime soon, and I will definitely be back for the next DesignNation collaboration!

Peter Som for KOHL'S DesignNation is Already Marked-Down!
Launched just 9 days ago on April 10th, some items have already sold out, but the ones still available are already marked down. Good news for bargain shoppers like you and me!!!
Each DesignNation capsule collection, in collaboration with a designer, is inspired by a place or travel destination. In Peter Som's case, he uses the sophisticated laid-backness of St. Barths as the inspiration of this Spring/Summer collaboration.
Peter Som debuted as a designer in the Spring of 2001 at Seventh on Sixth in the Bryant Park tents of NYC. Since then, he has emerged as one of the new American designers providing clean lines and a feminine aesthetic often sported by such stars as Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Scarlett Johansson.
Here are my picks and what I am going to look for today at my nearby KOHL'S store:
